BASIC TRIP DETAILS

Trip details for February 2024 St Vincent trip. 2025 dates will be launched exclusively in Dominica.

This trip includes five full on-water whale swimming days on a private boat and one day visiting local communities.

Sperm whales are much trickier to locate and swim with than humpback whales, so we give about 40% odds on any given day of getting in the water with them. That being said, it’s an incredible experience when it does work out. Be prepared to be patient. Other species we may encounter in the water include orcas, humpback whales, dolphins, and pilot whales. You never know what we will find on the water; each day is different.

The purpose of this project is not only to swim with sperm whales but also to engage the whale-hunting communities of St Vincent and work with them to try ecotourism instead. We want to promote sustainable practices in the region (and around the world). St Vincent is a whaling nation, one of the only ones still actively pursuing this practice in the hemisphere. We are trying to work with some members of this community to embrace whale watching and swimming instead of hunting. This is an essential component of this trip and we are excited to build this.

During the trip, we stay in the town of Kingston, the capital of St Vincent, and leave daily from here.

The trip begins on a Saturday and ends the following Saturday, with on-water whale days on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and a land excursion day on Wednesday.
